Some innovative approaches to protecting livestock from carnivores will be tested in the scope of the LIFE Varna paša project. University of Ljubljana, together with CABWIM consultancy from The Netherlands is developing a prototype of the electric collar, intended to deter wolves from preying on sheep. In September, they presented it at 56th MOS (International Fair of Crafts and Entrepreneurship) in Celje. Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation also participated at the fair with the project “Intersection of Science and Economy”. The project enables the presentation and promotion of the achievements of Slovenian science and closer cooperation between the scientific and economic spheres. The prototype of the electric collar was presented at the invitation of Mr. Janez Škrlec, who leads the presentations within the project. There was considerable interest in the collar, from visitors, ARIS (Slovenian Research and Innovation Agency) and the media.
