In the period 2015-2018, the LIFE DINALP BEAR project group from SFS, distributed 55 sets of high electric fences and multi wire electric fences for the prevention of the damages by brown bears. These efforts build off of and continue past work done under the SloWolf project. On the basis of positive experiences and results from above mentioned projects, the Slovenian Environmental Agency started co-financing the purchase of the protection measures to protect human property from large carnivores and golden jackals for all those who suffered damage in different types of property: livestock, beehives, cattle, orchards and other types of property.
The SFS plenipotentiary, who assess the damage cases and provide beekeepers and breeders with advice, represent great support to our project team. In addition to all active employees at the SFS, our work would not be successful without a close cooperation with livestock breeders and beekeepers. We would like to thank everyone for their cooperation in finding solutions for protecting the human property in large carnivore areas. This partnership has now resulted in more than 100 examples of preventative practices within Slovenia. In certain cases, bear damages were reduced by more than 95% and the majority of recipients did not suffer any further damages.
